A diagnosis of allergic rhinitis is usually based on your symptoms and any potential triggers you may have identified. If the cause of your condition is unclear, you should be referred for allergy testing. If your symptoms are severe and affecting your quality of life, you must see your healthcare professional.<\/p>\n
Allergic rhinitis is triggered by the inhalation of tiny allergen particles. Common allergens that cause allergic rhinitis include pollen, pet dander, floor and upholstery fabrics, cigarette smoke, humidity and dampness in the home, as well as other potential irritants to which you may be exposed, such as aspirin, anti-rheumatic drugs and certain blood pressure medications. Allergic reactions do not occur the first time you come into contact with an allergen.<\/p>\n

Measures to reduce exposure to mould allergens include cleaning with antifungal agents, reducing humidity to below 50 per cent, and using HEPA filtration.<\/p>\n
These avoidance strategies can effectively alleviate the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, and patients should be advised to use a combination of measures to achieve the best results. It can usually be treated with medication, although surgery is sometimes required in severe or long-term cases.<\/p>\n
